Nortel Users Have Six Months

By John Stamose / On-Line
February 1, 2010

If you're a current Nortel user, you have about six months to get your act together. That it, you better have a plan if your Nortel phone system tanks.

On January 29, 2010 TMC reported. “Today’s news from Avaya offers Nortel customers the first detailed insight into the future of their current Nortel deployments,” Brad Tompkins, INNUA’s (News - Alert) president, said. “It’s clear that Avaya intends to migrate Nortel customers to their Aura platform; but current Nortel customers will have a great deal of say in how quickly that happens.”

What's this mean?

“The short term impact on our members will be limited. Our focus now will be to prepare them for the future,” INNUA Executive Director Victor Bohnert (News - Alert) said. “We have launched several programs to inform our members of the changes to their installation timelines and will begin developing training and educational offerings to help them prepare for the long term.”

Say what?

In short Nortel users, Avaya thinks you need to cough up some nice dough to get into their money eating solutions. Yep, spend a bunch of money on their limited solutions that the competition is giving away for free. Hey, you want fax with your system? That will cost you. You want Recording? Oh, that's another chunk of change per user...the list goes on.

Isn't this was killed Nortel in the first place?
